WARRIORS OF THE UNDERWORLD
Art Direction, UI/UX Design, 2D Illustration and Branding
Warriors of the Underworld is a mobile game developed and published by Reveloot Games. Players traverse through various dungeons, battling enemies and descending down multiple levels in order to collect crystals that can be exchanged for better equipment. Along the way the player may come upon random items and encounters that could either aid or hinder their journey.
I was the art director, UI/UX designer and lead illustrator for this game, and worked closely with Reveloot partners head Dan Martinelli and Aaron Van Blarcom to design this game.




Interface Design
My team and I conceived Warriors of the Underworld as an homage to classic MUD-based computer role-playing games where players move room-to-room facing random encounters. We also aimed to design a mobile game that could easily be played with one hand using simple taps to interact with elements on screen.
With that in mind we broke down the interface into three main elements: the “player view” in a first person perspective of the room and enemies/objects encountered in the room, a text log informing the player of the ongoing game activity, and an interactive grid-based map that players tap to navigate from one room to the next. In keeping with the medieval fantasy theme, I designed the interface to appear as a parchment scroll with the map, buttons and other elements rendered in ink.
The interface went through multiple iterations during development, with the player view and map initially designed in bordered boxes, among other differences. For the final version the boxes were eliminated and other alterations were made to declutter and streamline the user experience.

Background Art
In addition to designing the user interface, I also illustrated background images for the various dungeons in Adobe Photoshop. Three different environments in total were released for the game: Murky Caves, Scorching Hellscapes, and Arctic Caverns. Below are a few samples of each:

Lastly, I design the game’s title logo and illustrated the “hero” image used for the game’s marketing.

Warriors of the Underworld was released on the Google Play store and received warm reviews from players. The base game containing the Murky Caves environment was free to play, with the other two environments made available as micro-transactions. A sequel to the game is currently in development with a planned 2026 release.
