Personal Items
Made with: 3D Studio MAX 6.0, Adobe Photoshop 7.0
This modeled scene was created for my Digital Lighting and Rendering course at Purdue University. The project was to arrange a scene of various items that have personal meaning to us, light it and take a photograph, and then reproduce the scene in a 3D modeling program. Click here to view the reference photograph.
Choice items had to include:
- a transparent or translucent object (the glass chess piece and the CD case)
- a cloth-like material (the hacky-sack)
- a rough-textured object (the hacky-sack)
- a glossy non-transparent object (the cue stick)
- an old, worn or weathered object (the Calvin and Hobbes book)
The final render was done in 3D Studio MAX. I used a variety of materials and shaders to reproduce the scene, including bump and specular maps. Most of the textures on the objects were scanned from the real items and mapped onto their CG counterparts. The lighting was achieved using two main spotlights and one omni light to brighten the background.
